SADC Finance Ministers Sign Tax Harmonisation Agreement

The South African Finance Ministry yesterday hosted a meeting of South African Development Community (SADC) Finance Ministers, in which a memorandum of understanding with regard to tax harmonisation and greater macroeconomic convergence in the region was signed.

In a statement released prior to the meeting of the 14 member community, the Finance Ministry announced that the meeting, hosted by South African Finance Minister, Trevor Manuel, would also be considering the role of finance ministers in the NEPAD (New Partnership for Africa's Development) recovery plan, and would be receiving a report on money laundering activities in Southern and East Africa.

The 14 members of the SADC community are Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
