New Minister for UK Dependent Territories?
Tax-news.com

30 July 1999

Tony Blair's summer reshuffle saw Home Office Minister of State with responsibility for the dependent territories, Lord Williams of Mostyn, promoted to Attorney-General. As yet there has been no replacement minister appointed.

Dependent territory residents see Lord William's former post as Minister of State as a crucial link between the dependent territories and the British Government. The replacement for Lord Williams may not by any means assume the precise responsibilities relinquished by the 58-year-old life peer. Home Secretary Jack Straw could use the present situation to plan an internal reshuffle of all his junior ministers.

Dependent territories affairs are dealt with by a minister in charge of what is known as the constitution and immigration unit whose responsibility includes matters as diverse as fire and prison inspectorates, electoral law, data protection and privacy, gambling and liquor licensing, summer time and cults.
