By by Amanda Banks, Tax-News.com, London

27 June 2008

It has emerged that the Netherlands Antilles and Canada have reached an agreement on a tax information exchange agreement (TIEA).

According to Caribbean Net News, the agreement was reached between the two negotiating teams in little more than a day, and Netherland Antilles State Secretary Alex Rosaria believes that it "will strengthen links that date back many centuries".

"It promotes Canadian investments and will also serve as an excellent instrument to combat tax fraud, money laundering and financing of terrorism," he was quoted as observing.

The Netherlands Antilles currently has TIEAs with the USA, Australia, New Zealand and Spain.

This year it plans to sign conventions with Mexico, Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Sweden, Greenland and the Faroe Islands.
