Netherland Antilles To Tighten Immigration Procedures
Prominent political figures have met in the Netherland Antilles to discuss
a new project aimed at tightening up the jurisdiction's immigration procedures. The 8 million guilder (US$4.5 million) programme which is being championed
by Justice Minister David Dick was debated yesterday by Lt. Governor Franklyn
Richards and his counterpart in Curaçao Lisa Dindial-Richards. Its main objective is to prevent undesirable goods and persons from entering
the Netherland Antilles and Aruba. It also seeks to prevent illegal movement
of persons and goods from the Dutch Caribbean territories to the Netherlands. According to Franklyn Richards, the ultimate objective of the programme is
to "maximise, streamline and coordinate the immigration process." The project is likely to entail the development and implementation of a new
system designed specifically for the processing of information relating to requests
for residency by non-nationals for the island territories of the Netherlands
Antilles. .
