Netherland Antilles Seeks To Decentralise Tax Inspectorate
by Amanda Banks, Tax-News.com, London

25 July 2005

A new version of the draft protocol dealing with the decentralisation of the Inspectorate of Taxes has been sent to the islands of the Netherland Antilles.

If approved, the draft protocol would lead to the decentralisation of the Inspectorate of Taxes and the transfer of authority of assessing taxes to the island territories.

According to Finance Commissioner Sarah Wescott-Williams, Finance Minister Ersilia de Lannooy is seeking approval from the islands to amend four articles of the ERNA (Island Regulation of the Netherland Antilles) for the islands to have the authority to assess taxes, which up to now is a responsibility of the Inspectorate of Taxes, a federal department.

To amend the ERNA, approval is needed of the Council of Ministers, Parliament and the Kingdom Government.
