Mauritius And Australia Strike Bilateral Air Services Deal

Recent bilateral air service talks between the aeronautical authorities of Mauritius and Australia have culminated in a provisional agreement to cooperate in four key areas.

Talks were held between representatives of the respective countries' aeronautical authorities on 24 and 25 October, in Canberra.

A Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two parties makes provision, inter alia, for:

  • The designated airline(s) of each Party to be entitled up to 7 frequencies per week whilst operating services to/from Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney, on the Mauritius/Australia route;
  • Multiple points being served by the designated airline(s) of Mauritius in Australia in any combination, as part of a through international journey;
  • Fifth freedom traffic rights being exercised by the designated airline(s) of Australia on a maximum of 4 weekly frequencies to/from four beyond points in continental Africa, subject to no more than three points in South Africa being served; and
  • Unrestricted operation of cargo services at all points between and beyond the territory of the Parties.
