Major Calms Channel Islands EU Tax Fears
By Tax-news.com

Speaking at a seminar in
Jersey, former UK Prime Minister John Major said that the
Channel Isles should not be worried about the threat of EU tax
harmonisation to their tax status. Mr Major said "There are important
moves towards tax harmonisation and greater European integration",
but in his opinion Switzerland has more to fear from these developments
than the Channel Islands. Mr Major went on to say that any action
against tax havens would require a co-ordinated effort from all
EU member countries and although some form of tax harmonisation
is likely, it is not imminent.
Mr Major also added his support
to recent comments by his former Chancellor, Lord Lamont, that
Tony Blair is a "constitutional vandal".
