Madeiran newspaper Diario de Noticias da Madeira, which was founded in 1876,
will instal a Protec MILENIUM content management system in order to modernise
its editorial and production processes.
Diario de Noticias is owned by the British company Blandy Brothers, which
has been present in Madeira for almost two centuries and carries out several
business activities relating to shipping, sea transport and tourism, among others.
With a daily sale of 19,000 copies, Diario de Noticias has the largest daily
circulation among Portuguese regional newspapers. Its new website is one of
the most widely read pages in the country, and is read abroad in places such
as Venezuela, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Australia and South Africa.
The content management system will make the jobs of the almost 120 professionals
comprising the Diario de Noticias da Madeira workforce easier. In addition,
writers outside the office can connect to the newspaper through the Internet
and work in real time as if they were in the newspaper’s newsroom. The
new system will also be used to prepare the Economics, Sunday Magazine, weekend
Magazine and Extra weekly supplements, as well as the Madeira Supplement which
appears in the Diario de Noticias de Lisboa on the last Sunday of every month.
Diario de Noticias da Madeira has over 125 years of history. Since its creation,
the publication has tried to expand among rural areas as well as promote dialogue
among the island’s immigrant communities. This technological advance,
says the newspaper, is part of Diario de Noticias’ ongoing commitment
to increasing its editorial capacity and reinforcing its relationship with its
readers and advertisers, respecting and defending values of freedom and democracy.
