The UK branch of international big five accounting firm, KPMG, announced this week that it has appointed a new tax chief to take over from Ian Barlow, who has served eight years in the position.

Loughlin Hickey who took his place at the head of the table on Thursday, has been a tax partner with the company for 12 years, previously had responsibility for tax marketing and strategy, and also headed up the UK tax practice's global business transformation team.

Speaking in a statement, Mr Hickey sung the praises of his predecessor: 'The tax practice has doubled in size and trebled in turnover since 1993 and has been transformed in nature with much greater specialisation,' he revealed, adding: 'I will be looking to build upon Ian's achievements in developing a distinctive KPMG approach to tax- focussed on business issues, a collaborative working style and a commitment to focus with our clients on continuous improvement.'
