Jersey Finance has announced that it is stepping up its programme
of activity this summer to highlight its leading role in private client and
trust work.
On 12th June, Jersey Finance chief executive, Geoff Cook, will be on a panel
during a discussion forum in London on the challenges facing the private client
industry.
The event, hosted and organised by prominent legal magazine, Legal Week, will
be attended by senior private client partners from UK law firms and some from
Europe and the US.
Jersey Finance is a participating sponsor at the event and a number of Jersey
delegates will also be attending.
Leading UK lawyers from Withers, Allen & Overy and Baker & Mackenzie,
are scheduled to speak at the event.
Mr Cook will join a panel afterwards, during the question and answer session
with delegates.
Later the same month, on 23rd and 24th June, Finance Industry representatives
including Jersey Finance Technical Director, Rob Kirkby, will attend the Transcontinental
Trusts conference in Geneva.
The Industry will have an exhibition stand at the event, which attracts delegates
keen to hear from leading authorities in the global trust industry.
In September, Jersey Finance will be staging an event of its own in London
devoted to its private client and trust industry, highlighting the developments
that have taken place, and discussing some of the issues relevant to London private
client lawyers and finance professionals.
Mr Cook argued that:
"We have a leading position in private wealth but competition is increasing.
We are evolving and improving our legislative environment with a number of new
law changes and other measures coming on track during 2008 and we need to ensure
Jersey’s offering is heard and understood."
He concluded: "We are aware that confidentiality
of client affairs is an issue for all finance centres and we will be explaining
that whilst Jersey is playing a positive role in the global drive to improve
information exchange, it continues to adhere to strict rules of confidentiality
and privacy in respect of client’s financial affairs."
