Isle Of Man E-Com Delegation Has Irish Success
by Jason Gorringe, Tax-News.com, London

30 September 2002

A presentation made in Dublin last week by a delegation from the Isle of Man led by Tim Craine, the Island’s Director of E-Commerce, attracted 50 of the ‘leading-lights’ from the Republic of Ireland’s e-business community.

Said Tim Craine: “Our presentation in Dublin was a runaway success both in terms of the quality and number of people who came to hear what we had to say.

“We have an incredibly powerful e-commerce story to tell - a story which was enhanced by the presence of representatives from successful Island-based e-businesses. Delegates heard about the benefits of locating their businesses on the Island from companies with first-hand experience. Tangible evidence of the partnership between public and private sectors added real value to our offering.

“There is no doubt that the attractiveness of the Island as an e-commerce location has been enhanced by the proposed introduction of a zero rate of corporation tax - in e-commerce parlance, it is our ‘killer application’.

“I am certain that the relationships we have established during our three visits to Dublin this year will result in e-businesses locating to the Isle of Man.”

Tim Craine was accompanied by Chris Hall, Managing Director of Manx Telecom; Paul Dougherty, Principal at Dougherty Associates; and Arthur Lancaster, a Tax Director of Ernst & Young Trust Co Ltd.

Tim Craine had already visited Dublin twice this year to hold a series of one-to-one briefings with members of Ireland’s e-business community. The success of these earlier visits prompted the E-Commerce Division to stage a full presentation.
