Irish Taxpayers Can Now File And Pay Tax Electronically
by Jason Gorringe, Tax-News.com, London

01 October 2001

Last year, the Irish Revenue introduced electronic filing of tax returns for businesses - now it has extended the service to individuals. The Revenue Online Service (ROS) allows taxpayers to:

  • make preliminary tax and later payments for income tax, corporation tax and capital gains tax;
  • use Laser cards to make tax payments;
  • access online income tax, corporation tax and capital gains tax details;
  • electronically file Form 11s with accompanying accounts' details; and
  • from November, file CT1 forms with accompanying accounts' details.

To connect to the ROS service, taxpayers need to visit the website at www.ros.ie and follow the three steps below:

  • apply for your RAN (ROS Access Number), which is posted to you (yawn) by land mail;
  • input the RAN and await the receipt of a system password, which will also be posted to you (yawn, yawn) by land mail;
  • enter your password to retrieve your digital certificate (at least they can't post that to you).
