Ireland Scores Well For Productivity According to ILO
by Jason Gorringe, Tax-News.com, London

03 September 2003

According to a study undertaken by the United Nations affiliated International Labour Organisation (ILO), Ireland's workforce has been found to be the third most productive in the world after the United States and Belgium.

Compared to the last survey carried out two years ago, Ireland's productivity rates have increased by more than 2%, comfortably higher than the European average which rose by 1.2% in the same period; and the average output per employee in Ireland was found to be worth some $52,500.

When measured by productivity per hour however, Ireland fared slightly worse, though it was still positioned a very creditable fifth behind Norway, France, Belgium, and the United States.

The International Labour Organization is a UN agency which seeks the promotion of social justice and internationally recognized human and labour rights. Founded in 1919, it is the only surviving major creation of the Treaty of Versailles which brought the League of Nations into being, and it became the first specialised agency of the UN in 1946.
