Ireland Has Lowest Tax Burden For Low-Paid Workers, OECD Survey Reveals
by Jason Gorringe, Tax-News.com, London

14 July 2005

The Economic Survey of the Euro Area 2005, published by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development on Tuesday, has revealed that Ireland has the lowest tax burden for low-paid workers.

According to the survey results, measuring the tax burden against total labour costs, the total burden for those on low incomes in Ireland was under 30%.

The OECD observed that:

"The variation in the euro area remains substantial, ranging from more than 50% in Belgium and Germany to less than 30% in Ireland, the country that has the strongest job creation record in the euro area."

However, the report revealed that in terms of personal taxation levels alone, other EU member states such as France, Germany, Greece, Holland and Luxembourg have lower rates than Ireland.
