High calibre professional speakers will debate the future of trusts at a major
London event hosted by Investec Trust, it was announced on Wednesday.
To be held at Investec offices in London on 10th September, the lunch-time event
will explore the question: ‘Are Trusts an Endangered Species?’
Investec Trust explained that Tom Dumont of Radcliffe Chambers will argue that trusts are indeed an endangered
species, with Richard Pease of Lenz & Staehelin arguing the opposing view.
STEP Worldwide Chairman Rosemary Marr of Investec Trust will chair the debate.
The discussion will examine how the increasing regulation and competition between
offshore financial centres in the international global marketplace will impact
on the trust industry, taking into consideration the tax changes in the UK for
non-domiciled individuals, as well as other jurisdictional issues.
The question will be posed as to whether there is room for growth in this global
context.
Rosemary Marr concluded:
“This is a challenging and exciting time for the trust sector. There
are undeniably obstacles in the path for the industry but perhaps this simply
means we must create even more innovative solutions in the future."
“The event is cutting edge and represents some of the most brilliant
minds working in the trust sector so I am very much looking forward to hearing
what arguments are put forward. I will be certain to ensure no issue will be
left unchallenged in the panel debate - it promises to be a very stimulating
lunch time.”
