by Lorys Charalambous, for LawAndTax-News.com, Cyprus

28 April 2008

The Government of India and the Government of United Arab Emirates (UAE) met in New Delhi on 23rd April, 2008 to discuss matters relating to Air Services between India and Dubai.

An MoU was then signed between the two countries on the revised air service operations between points in India and Dubai.

It has been agreed by the two countries that Kozhikode (formerly Calicut) will be an additional point of call for the designated airlines of UAE.

The designated airlines of India and the designated airlines of the UAE will each be entitled to operate a total of up to 54,200 seats per week in each direction, which is an addition of 23,000 per week.

There will be 39,200 seats per week in each direction with immediate effect, 48,200 seats per week in each direction from Winter 2008-09, 51,200 seats per week in each direction with effect from Summer 2009, and 54,200 seats per week in each direction from Winter 2009-10.

With respect to the enhanced capacity agreed for operations by the designated airlines of UAE (Dubai) to/from Mumbai, the Indian side has asked the UAE delegation that especially for Mumbai, there should be upgrading of equipment (aircraft) on the existing frequencies to the extent that this is possible, instead of increasing the number of flights.
