IT Staff At The Bank Of Ireland Walk Out Over Job Concerns
by Jason Gorringe, Tax-News.com, London

04 August 2003

In what is the first bank strike in Ireland in 12 years, staff at the Bank of Ireland's ITSIS information technology division walked out last week in protest at a decision to contract out parts of the operation to Hewlett Packard.

Some 200 staff are involved in the strike, though representatives have promised that disruption will be kept to a minimum, and that cash machines and online services will remain unaffected by the move.

The strike action came after a day of negotiations at the Labour Court failed to find a resolution to the dispute. The BoI staff are seeking a seven year job guarantee with Hewlett Packard.
