The Irish Stock Exchange (ISE) has announced a major expansion of its Exchange
Traded Fund (ETF) product offering which will enable institutional and retail
investors to track the performance of US equity markets and a range of other investment
instruments from gold to oil to water to alternative energy.
The new suite of ETFs has been launched in partnership with ETF Securities which
has over USD9bn in assets under management and is one of the fastest growing ETF
issuers in Europe.
Brian Healy, Director of Traded Markets, Development, Operations at the ISE
said: “The exchange is very focused on ETFs as one of the fastest growing
products in the market. After extensive work with ETF Securities, one of Europe’s
leading ETF issuers, we are delighted to launch an innovative, internationally
focused new ETF platform on the ISE. This represents an exciting new opportunity
for both Irish and international investors to trade new commodity as well as
global and US equity based products on the ISE.”
William Rhind, Head of UK & Ireland Sales at ETF Securities commented:
“ETF Securities is extremely proud to be able to offer this exciting platform
of 13 new equity ETFs to Irish investors. Ireland is already well known and
regarded as a domicile of choice for ETF companies. The decision to launch 13
equity ETFs on the Irish Stock Exchange has come largely from our Irish clients
who have consistently asked ETF Securities to provide them with more investment
opportunities, particularly themes and sectors they are currently unable to
access through any exchange."
He added: "This new platform of 13 ETFs, launched in partnership with
the ISE, will enable Irish investors to access global and European sectors such
as Water, Alternative Energy, Nuclear Energy, Agri Business, Coal, Steel, Gold,
Basic Resources, Oil & Gas, Utilities, Shipping and US Large and Small Cap
stocks (Russell 1000 and Russell 2000).
As part of the launch of its new ETF platform the ISE has admitted Flow Traders
as a new trading member firm. Amsterdam based Flow Traders, one of the leading
liquidity providers in ETFs, will act as a market maker for the new securities.
An ETF is an investment company with shares which trade intraday on stock exchanges
at market-determined prices. Investors can buy and sell them in the same way
as they currently trade in equities on the ISE.
A relatively new addition to the investment world (they were first introduced
in the USA in 1993 and in Europe in 2000) ETFs have become ever more popular
due to their lower transactions costs and flexibility.
The new ETFs trading on the ISE are denominated in euros.
