Hong Kong's IP Department Launches Interactive Patent Renewal Service
Hong Kong's Intellectual Property Department announced on Monday that it has launched
interactive electronic services for renewal of registered trademarks and patents,
and for keeping the data up-to-date.
The services will be available round-the-clock, and will enable users to complete
transactions securely in real time. In the past, customers have had to file applications to the department on the
Internet, with department staff processing the applications at a later date.
With the new interactive services, customers can make alterations to the patent
or trademark databases themselves. The department will extend the interactive services to include changes of name,
address, agent's address and address for service in January. Electronic filing services for trademarks and for patents and designs were
launched in December, 2003, and May, 2004, respectively. For trademark applications,
the migration rate reached 62% in August. .
