by Mary Swire, for LawAndTax-News.com, Hong Kong

03 December 2007

It was announced by the Hong Kong authorities on Friday that Gladys Li has been appointed as Copyright Tribunal Chairman, and Kenneth Ho as Deputy Chairman for two years from December 1.

The Commerce & Economic Development Bureau went on to add that six incumbent members have been reappointed.

These were: Emily Cheung, Professor Ching Pak-chung, David Lam, Joseph Tung, Yu Pang-chun and Danny Yung. New member Susanna Chiu has also been appointed to replace retiring member Paul Chan.

The tribunal is a quasi-judicial body which adjudicates disputes on the terms and conditions of copyright licensing schemes devised by licensing bodies.

The tribunal's chairman and deputy must be qualified for appointment as district judges.
