Hong Kong And India Discuss Taxation, Air Services Agreement
Representatives from the Hong Kong and Indian governments met on Friday to
discuss various matters, including increased cooperation with regard to air
services, and the avoidance of double taxation. Hong Kong's Financial Secretary, John Tsang called for more flights between
Hong Kong and India, and expressed hope that both jurisdictions can reach an
air services agreement soon, following the commencement this week of negotiations.
The meeting between Tsang and Indian Finance Minister Shri Palaniappan Chidambaram
took place in New Delhi. Mr Tsang raised the need for increased and more convenient air services between
Hong Kong and India to cope with growing demand from increased business co-operation. Another issue brought up at the meeting was the matter of negotiations for
an Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement between Hong Kong and India.
Both sides recognised the need for negotiations that started in 2003 to resume. The two men additionally discussed double taxation, expressing hope that an
agreement can be reached in order to promote further business co-operation and
exchange of talent between the two places. .
