It was announced this week that Guernsey recently hosted the bi-annual Crown
Dependencies Immigration and Nationality Conference.
The Conference, which is hosted by each of the Crown Dependencies in turn,
was held over two days.
In addition to welcoming delegates from Jersey and the Isle of Man, the Customs
and Immigration Service in Guernsey was also pleased to welcome colleagues from
Guernsey Police, and guest speakers from the United Kingdom's Border and Immigration
Agency.
Rob Prow, Chief Officer of Customs and Immigration explained that:
"The Conference provides an ideal opportunity for those working within
the areas of Immigration and Nationality in each of the Crown Dependencies to
discuss issues of mutual interest. For example, the introduction of second generation
biometric passports, the e-Borders programme, changes to UK passport issuing
policy, work permit policy, deportation and asylum issues and changes to UK
legislation and their effect in the Islands, were all matters discussed during
the two days."
He added:
"Conferences such as these are vital in ensuring that the Crown Dependencies
are fully informed of the changes taking place in all areas of Immigration and
Nationality work. All those attending derive great benefit from discussing the
policies and practices applicable in their own and other jurisdictions. The
guest speakers from the UK are able to update the Islands on specific operational
and policy matters and also benefit from meeting colleagues working in the Islands."
