First GST Returns Due In Jersey
by Jason Gorringe, Tax-News.com, London

01 August 2008

The States of Jersey has reminded companies that have registered for GST that they should by now have sent their first quarterly returns and payment into the Income Tax Office.

In a statement, the island's government reminded businesses that the deadline for returns for the standard quarter of 6th May – 30th June, is Thursday 31st July.

This is the first time that companies will be completing the return forms since GST was introduced on 6th May.

Director of GST, Steve Lowthorpe explained: “Some companies have selected ‘non-standard’ quarters which fit in with their individual accounting procedures. If the company is in any doubt they should look at their GST certificate of registration which shows if a company needs to file a return by this Thursday.”

A blank return form has been sent to companies by the Income Tax Office. If a company has not yet received a blank return they are urged to contact the Income Tax Office without delay.

Returns can also be made electronically via the Income Tax Web site.

GST returns for taxpayers who are required to file a return for the periods ending in July or August 2008 will receive a paper return before the end of the tax period.
