Film Finance Exchange Due To Launch
by Leroy James, Lawandtax-News.com, New York

23 November 2006

There is strong world-wide competition to attract film finance through tax breaks and other incentives; now an international exchange is being planned to list and trade shares in film productions from around the world.

GLOMEX - the Global Movie Exchange - says it aims to revolutionise the way in which much audio-visual production is financed in the future through its ‘Securitisation of the Production Process'.

Film makers have always struggled with raising the capital needed to finance their productions, says GLOMEX, whether due to continual changes in government tax schemes or temperamental attitudes among investors.

The exchange, due to be launched soon, hopes to encourage film producers to offer shares in their productions which will then be bought and traded by individual investors.

It is currently unclear where the new exchange will be based, or under what regulatory regime. GLOMEX says it is currently accepting pre-launch registrations from both members and potential issuers as the trading platform undergoes its final stages of testing before going live.
