Enron Legal Bill Comes To $780 Million
by Glen Shapiro, LawAndTax-News.com, New York

23 December 2004

According to reports, the judge overseeing Enron's bankruptcy case, Arthur Gonzalez was this week asked by advisors in the case to approve a bill for legal fees of $780 million.

Judge Gonzalez reportedly acknowledged that the bill presented by the law firms and consultants that worked on the case is "significant" in size, but argued that "it's a very complex case".

Reporting on the size of the legal bill, the UK's Telegaph newspaper revealed that it exceeds the previous record in a bankruptcy case of $622 million, which was set by lawyers advising on the WorldCom collapse.

The former energy firm's creditors are expected to receive 20 cents in the dollar once the case is completed. However, shareholders and employees are likely to receive nothing.
