Cypriot Foreign Minister Attends EU General Affairs And External Relations Council

The Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs, Markos Kyprianou, travelled to Luxemburg on Monday to participate in the EU General Affairs and External Relations Council.

The agenda includes issues such as the Western Balkans, the Middle East Peace Process, and the situations in Zimbabwe, Iraq and Myanmar.

Matters concerning the World Trade Organisation will also be discussed.

On the sidelines of the Council, the Foreign Minister will have bilateral contacts and meetings. During his stay in Luxemburg Mr Kyprianou will also have a working meeting with his Luxembourg counterpart, Jean Asselborn.

On Tuesday the Foreign Minister will travel to Berlin for a working visit, where on Wednesday, he will have a meeting with his counterpart the Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany, Dr Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

The talks between the two Ministers will focus on bilateral relations, the Cyprus question and Turkey’s EU accession process.

While in Berlin, Mr Kyprianou will also have separate meetings with the Chairperson of the Alliance 90/ The Greens Group at the German Bundestag, Ms Renate Kunast and the Chancellor’s European Affairs Adviser and Head of the Directorate-General for European Policy, Dr Uwe Corsepius.

The Foreign Minister returns to Cyprus on Thursday.
