by Leroy Baker, Tax-News.com, New York

04 November 2003

US-based computer chip manufacturer Intel has announced a major investment in Costa Rica that is to be worth some $110 million over the next three years, after deciding to locate production of next-generation chipsets in the country.

"This is a very positive and important decision for Intel Costa Rica that reinforces the plant's strategic importance for the company," said Bill Abraham, General Manager of Intel Costa Rica, according to the Tico Times.

"Intel and the government of Costa Rica must now work together to make this decision a successful one," he added.

Mr Abraham commented that the Costa Rican plant was chosen for the new investment because “of its exceptional productivity”.

"The plant has shown great discipline in increasing productivity, while at the same time managing to cut costs and maintaining an excellent safety record," observed Abraham.
