The Cook Islands has sought membership
of the Asia/Pacific Group on Money Laundering (APG) as a means of stepping up
its international cooperation to combat financial crime.
The Prime Minister Dr. Terepai Maoate said the Cook Islands would continue its
own efforts against money laundering and meet its international obligations
in support of the APG.
The APG, which has its Secretariat in Sydney, is scheduled to hold its fourth
annual meeting 22-24 May, in Kuala Lumpur. The Cook Islands will be represented
at that meeting by Commissioner of Offshore Financial Services Mathilda Uhrle.
