China And UAE See Boost In Bilateral Trade

Exports from China to the United Arab Emirate have surged this year according to the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, with bi-lateral trade between the two countries set for further increases in the years ahead.

As China prepares to hold its largest trade fair in the Middle East, the Chinese Commodities Fair Sharjah, Mohamed Salem Al Mosharrekh, a SCCI board member, noted in a report in the Kaleej Times that China has exported $4.43 billion worth of goods to the UAE during 2004, representing a 45.5% increase on 2003.

Meanwhile, trade between China and the GCC states as a whole is also blossoming, growing from $1.5 billion in 1991 to $16.9 billion in 2003.

“The past editions of the Chinese Commodities Fair Sharjah had been highly successful,” observed Al Mosharrekh.

“The total number of visitors registered during the last two editions exceeded 93,000. This included over 19,000 trade visitors from 64 countries,” he explained, adding that total transactions during these two sessions amounted to more than $950 million.

The five day Chinese trade fair is due to commence on December 4 and will reportedly attract some 600 firms drawn from all regions of China.
