Chief Minister And Treasury Minister Attend Mansion House Event
by Carla Johnson, Investors Offshore.com, London

25 June 2008

The Isle of Man's Chief Minister, Tony Brown and Treasury Minister, Allan Bell were present at London's Mansion House last week to hear keynote speeches on the British economy from Governor of the Bank of England, Mervyn King and Chancellor of the Exchequer, Alastair Darling.

Mr Brown and Mr Bell represented the Isle of Man at the annual Bankers Dinner hosted by the Lord Mayor of the City of London last Wednesday evening.

They mixed with senior figures from the City, UK business and politics, and had a brief conversation with Chancellor Darling.

The attendance of the Chief Minister and Treasury Minister at the event was viewed as an opportunity to enhance the Isle of Man’s profile in the City, and followed the Lord Mayor’s visit to the Island in November last year.

The Lord Mayor, Alderman David Lewis, delivered the inaugural Chief Minister’s International Lecture at the Mount Murray Hotel, and described the Island as ‘a core asset’ for the City.

In February this year the IoM Chief Minister and Trade and Industry Minister, David Cretney MHK attended the Trade and Industry dinner at the Mansion House.
