CRA Launches Basic Tax Information E-Service

Quick Access for individuals, a new e-service which provides basic tax information for Canadians Online, was launched on Thursday by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

Quick Access aims to provide individuals with fast, easy and secure access to basic personal tax and benefit account information without having to telephone the CRA.

"Our government is strengthening Canada's tax advantage by reducing the overall tax burden by USD200bn for Canadians and businesses by 2012-13," explained Revenue Minister, Gordon O'Connor.

"We are also delivering more options to help Canadians to access their tax-related information online through Quick Access, a user-friendly way to get information Canadians are looking for," he added.

With Quick Access, Canadian taxpayers can access information about their:

  • Tax return status;
  • Registered Retirement Savings Plan deduction limit;
  • Canada Child Tax Benefit payment status;
  • GST/HST credit payment status; and
  • Universal Child Care Benefit payment status.

To use Quick Access, Canadians need to provide the following personal information to identify themselves:

  • Social insurance number;
  • Date of birth;
  • The amount calculated and entered on line 150 (Total income) of the 2006 or 2007 filed and processed income tax return.
