The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) announced on Wednesday that it is to offer
a new and enhanced set of communication tools to better communicate with Canadians,
and to help them stay informed of important tax information.
The CRA went on to reveal that it is now offering RSS feeds for certain streams
of information, making it easier for Canadians to receive the most up-to-date
information.
Some of CRA's popular “Tax Tips” are offered as audiocasts. Visitors
to the CRA Web site can listen to tax tips instead of reading them, or download
them to an MP3 player and listen later. The audiocasts are available in Punjabi,
Mandarin and Italian, in addition to English and French.
The CRA has stressed that it has always made every effort to accommodate taxpayers
whose language of common usage is not one of Canada's official languages, and
earlier this year, it launched a national advertising campaign to alert Canadians
to new tax measures introduced by the Government of Canada in 2006 and 2007
During this year's tax filing season, the CRA is also piloting a multilingual
media relations spokesperson project to work with Canada's ethnic media outlets.
CRA representatives will be available for interviews in multiple languages to
answer questions about tax filing.
The CRA Web site also features a videocast to highlight this year's new tax
relief measures, and other reminders for Canadians about how and when to file
their tax returns, the CRA explained this week.
