Bermuda-based Invesdex Ltd has announced the launch of MarketPlus, a
next-generation, over-the-counter (OTC) investment vehicle that facilitates
active asset allocation and hedging strategies. A powerful alternative
to index mutual funds, exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and futures, MarketPlus
is designed for fund managers, financial advisers and qualified self-directed
investors. MarketPlus is a fully paid, limited liability investment contract
that features an easy-to-use web-based interface, similar to an online
trading account. Major investors include Bank of Butterfield and the Centre
Group, wholly owned by Zurich Financial Services.
"We are very pleased to introduce MarketPlus as an exciting alternative
for active investors seeking a highly flexible and globally diversifiable
investment instrument," said Valere Costello, president and CEO of
Invesdex. "It provides access to futures-linked financial and commodity
assets, without the risk of unlimited liability and complications of contract
rollovers. Further, many investors have investment guidelines that prohibit
them from investing in futures; MarketPlus solves that problem."
Available to accredited investors, MarketPlus is accessible online through
the Invesdex web site at www.invesdex.com. It offers a diverse selection
of assets, including the major world equity indices-such as the S&P
500, Nasdaq100, FT-SE 100, Hang Seng and industrial sectors-as well as
other fixed income and commodity asset categories, including U.S. Treasuries,
gold and crude oil. As often as every half-hour, investors can custom-link
their contract to the performance of any combination of these assets and
choose direct (long) or inverse exposures, as well as up to three-to-one
gearing. Importantly, MarketPlus is a non-recourse instrument, so investors
cannot lose more than their investment.
According to Robert Champion, the chairman and co-founder of Invesdex,
current market conditions underscore the need for this kind of instrument:
"Not only is MarketPlus an excellent vehicle for portfolio diversification,
it also is particularly well suited for bearish and trading-range markets.
Unless you have the capital, sophistication, and capability to trade directly
in the futures markets, you will not find another vehicle that combines
the same level of flexibility and efficiency."
MarketPlus Contracts are offered by Invesdex Capital Ltd (ICL). ICL's
liabilities to MarketPlus investors are 100 percent collateralized by
liquid assets held by Butterfield Trust, the Trust subsidiary of A-rated
Bank of Butterfield. "We are very pleased to be associated with Invesdex,"
said Calum Johnston, president and CEO of the Bank of Butterfield. "MarketPlus
will be an exciting alternative for our sophisticated clients who have
been seeking a better way to manage their broad-based investment portfolios."
"MarketPlus is a unique investment platform that combines technological
innovation and functionality," said Paul Hellmers, president and
CEO of Centre Solutions (Bermuda) Limited. "We chose to partner with
Invesdex because we believe MarketPlus delivers an easy-to-use, cost efficient
product that addresses the needs of investors looking to flexibly access
and manage investments in a number of broad market indices."
Invesdex chose to incorporate in Bermuda because of the Island's pristine
reputation as well as its advanced telecommunications and professional
services infrastructure. Bermuda is also one of the world's premier insurance
capitals and, increasingly, home to many entrepreneurial financial services
companies that seek to leverage the global reach of the Internet.
This initial launch of MarketPlus is the first in a series of announcements
to be made over the next several months. "This instrument has been
designed to evolve with our investors' needs," said Costello. "New
features and asset categories will be added regularly through subsequent
releases as we enhance the flexibility of MarketPlus."
