As part of BELTRAIDE’s commitment to develop and enhance the capacity
and competitiveness of SMEs in Belize, and with assistance provided by the Commonwealth
Secretariat under Pan Caribbean SME-ICT Competitiveness Development Programme,
BELTRAIDE has started the first phase of an Economic Performance Benchmarking
(EPB) Tool initiative, it was announced on Friday.
The initiative will focus on four industries/sectors: light manufacturing,
agro-processing, handicraft, and tourism related services.
According to the government of Belize:
"The Tool, a combination of trained facilitators and custom-designed software,
will assist SMEs to be more competitive by identifying critical success factors
(CSFs) with the enterprises operations."
"It will also map and measure the various processes against best in class;
identify performance gaps; and provide possible immediate improvements; along
with using networking as a tool for collaboration and competitiveness strengthening."
The first phase reportedly involves meeting and assessing the 15 participating enterprises
to initiate the gap analysis, along with successful enterprises to provide for
the best in class benchmark.
This phase is expected to last six weeks, followed by the second phase, involving
training of facilitators and implementation of the software.
The third stage will conclude the initiative, providing useful and relevant
reports and ‘way forward’ proposals for the enterprises, in order to adopt best
practices and minimize the performance gaps.
