Belize Prime Minister Said Musa paid an official one-day visit to Costa Rica last week to sign a declaration with President Dr Miguel Angel Rodriguez in which they committed themselves to accelerate the process of the Central American Integration programme.

The two leaders also agreed to initiate negotiations early next year for an Agreement for the Promotion and Protection of Investments between both countries. They will also establish bilateral cooperation activities in the spheres of education, environment natural disaster management, social development and eco-tourism.

Prime Minister Musa stressed the importance of cooperation in order to achieve sustainable human development for both countries, as well as for the region and said he was 'extremely pleased with the recommendations made to strengthen our bilateral relations.'

The Central American Integration scheme incorporating Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, and Belize, is an agreement to co-operate to promote peace and development between the countries in political, economic, social, cultural, and ecological terms.
