Bahamas Ambassador To Washington Presents Credentials To President Bush
Bahamian Ambassador to Washington, Cornelius A. Smith officially presented his credentials to United States President George W. Bush in a ceremony held on Tuesday, January 22, 2008 Last October, Governor General of The Bahamas, Arthur Hanna presented Ambassador Smith with his Letters of Credence. Earlier this month, the Bahamian Ambassador to Washington assumed the three-month rotating chairmanship of the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS). Upon his installation as Chairman, Ambassador Smith announced that The Bahamas would further emphasize the core OAS principles of “supporting and promoting good governance, democratic values, respect for law and order and the protection of human rights” during its leadership of the Permanent Council. During his career in Bahamian politics, Ambassador Smith has served his country as Minister of Education, Minister of Public Safety and Immigration, Minister of Tourism, and Minister of Transport and Local Government. .
