Aruba Tightens Up Residence Permit Regulations
by Amanda Banks, Tax-News.com, London

06 December 2005

The Caribbean island of Aruba has tightened up aspects of its residence permit regulations as part of changes to the jurisdiction's immigration policy.

Dutch citizens could until recently obtain a permanent residence permit, provided they were employed, although this rule didn’t apply to persons having only a three-year contract with the government.

However, according to a bulletin that was circulated last Wednesday, this regulation has lapsed with immediate effect, Amigo.com reported. This regulation, dated July 11th, 2004 is provisional in nature and as a result, no new permit application will be handled in the coming three months.

The report also stated that fees for new permits will increase, and there will be stricter rules regarding marriage to foreigners.
