The Caribbean jurisdiction of Antigua & Barbuda and the South American state of Columbia have been exploring ways in which to enhance bilateral trade after a small Columbian delegation met with Antiguan government representatives last week, Caribbean Net News reports.

"Under the free trade agreement between Colombia and CARICOM, exports among the partners should encounter no barriers, except for certain non-tariff requirements related to health and sanitary standards," Antigua & Barbuda Ambassador Colin Murdoch explained following a meeting with Colombian Commissioner for Trade with the Caribbean, Mr. Carlos Gonzalez.

The Columbian representative also met with Mr Eban Thomas of the Government’s Information Technology Centre to discuss ways in which Columbia’s software exports can be boosted, in addition to holding talks with other industry leaders and the Chamber of Commerce on closer business ties between the two nations.

"We are delighted to explore these possibilities," commented the Colombian Honorary Consul Mrs Maria Britto, "and we will continue to work vigorously to bring Colombia closer to this great little Caribbean country," she added.
